Grand Canyon

One of the seven natural wonders of the world, it is a popular tourist destination that many have never taken the time to see. It is not easy to get to since it is far away from everything, but offers a sight to behold. The scenery leading up to the canyon is a flat, barren wasteland. After the never-ending drive deprived of anything to look at but desert, the ground suddenly opens up to reveal a vast expanse where a sea of mountains are hiding beneath the surface. There is even a town, Supai, hidden within the canyon.

Flagstaff Arizona is the closest city, but there are some small towns that are closer, and there are accommodations for staying at the Grand Canyon itself. A day tour from Las Vegas is a popular way to see the Grand Canyon, often with a stop at the Hoover Dam along the way. That option is about sixteen hours roundtrip; however, it is a comfortable ride with entertainment and meals included. There is also plenty of time to take in the sights of the canyon.

Whether you drive yourself or take a tour, you will have to decide which rim of the canyon you are going to visit. Your options are directional, the North, South, East, and West rims. The National Park Service has a very helpful park planner that does through the options and takes into account all of the variables, such as time of year and who you are traveling with. This link will take you to their website:

Whichever rim you decide to visit, you will not be disappointed by the views. The only regret will be if you hurry the experience by driving all the way there, take a few quick pictures, and leave for the next destination. Make sure you build in extra time to savor the experience and enjoy your time at one of the seven natural wonders of the world!
