When you think of distilleries you may not think to visit for a meal, but the food here was a very pleasant surprise. Upon entering the establishment, you are greeted with a very unique, gigantic wood and glass door that was hinged in the middle. The décor was contemporary, which is usually in opposition to a relaxed, inviting feel. In this case, however, the staff was very welcoming, informal, and appreciative of the patronage. I learned that the Blue Clover is a locally owned small business with a staff that are very close to each other and very invested in the success of the venture. This dedication results in excellent service, food, and drinks that every customer will enjoy.
Normally I would recommend ordering the specialty at any establishment, which in this case is the vodka and gin, but I decided to go against my own advice and get a whiskey drink. The Whiskey Charm was a lemonade-style drink that was the best drink of its kind that I’ve ever tried. Usually, whiskey and lemonade are not a good combination and often the whiskey overpowers the overall drink. In this case, the drink tasted like lemonade with a hint of whiskey that was far from overpowering. The drink was light and refreshing, definitely worth trying.
The food was even better. I was hoping to get the steak plate, but it was late and not available. Instead, I ordered the Pastrami Melt Sandwich and Fries. This hot pastrami sandwich was different than most, served with hot and crispy fries. The pastrami was thick cut, topped with cheese and a mix of sauces, on a pita bread bun. I have never seen this combination, but it worked. This was an excellent sandwich!
